Force and Thermal Sensing with a Fabric-based Skin
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a novel fabric-based multimodal tactile sensing skin with three sensing modalities: force, actively heated temperature sensors to measure heat transfer and passive, unheated temperature sensors. In our evaluation, the skin recognized two materials during pressing and sliding tasks. Our method thermally distinguished pine wood from aluminum after detecting the contact force. With a support vector machine (SVM) classifier trained on 0.25 s of data, our method achieved a recognition accuracy of 96% for the pressing task and 73% for the sliding task.

Analysis of the Thermal Comfort Properties and Heat Protection Performance of Cotton/Nylon-Kermel Fabrics
In this research, fire and radiant heat protection and thermal comfort properties of cotton/nylon-Kermel blended woven fabrics, were utilized to predict the thermal comfort and protection limit of this fabric structure based on Woo and Barker developed model. The results showed that the porosity, the air permeability and the thermal resistance increased with Kermel fiber blend ratio. Conversely...
متن کاملLow Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring
In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...

In this paper, finite element model of woven fabric target has been investigated which is impacted by a cylindrical projectile. Fabrics are impregnated with Shear Thickening Fluid (STF). The effects of the (STF) have been considered as frictional effect. The STF has been made (Nano Silica and Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)) and then diluted by ethanol proportion of 3:1. Yarn pulling out test from in...
متن کاملFire-Resistant Hydrogel-Fabric Laminates: A Simple Concept That May Save Lives.
There is a large demand for fabrics that can survive high-temperature fires for an extended period of time, and protect the skin from burn injuries. Even though fire-resistant polymer fabrics are commercially available, many of these fabrics are expensive, decompose rapidly, and/or become very hot when exposed to high temperatures. We have developed a new class of fire-retarding materials by la...
